Documentary: Undercity

With the accessibility to filmmaking tools, more and more people are creating, which can be viewed as a good or bad thing. Good because: 1. it allows those with ADD to view a never ending stream of content daily 2. because those of us who have dreamed of creating something dope can make it happen and make it look good as well.
On the other side of the spectrum, such accessibility to tools means that a lot of crap gets made as well. In a crazy way I think it’s good the crap is out there, that way it is exposed and pushes the true artists to keep creating and thinking of new ways to wow us.
Enter the Andrew Wonder documentary “UnderCity”. On the surface it is just a crazy white man running around subways and bridges with an equally crazy camera man following every step of the way. However as someone who shoots and has climbed some really high shit( not as high as the WilliamsBurg Bridge), I def have an appreciation for the effort that went into this film. Not only is it ambitious, but it’s not crap! It’s shot well, the audio is on point and it’s pretty much a first person view of everything. Just think for a second how nerve racking it is to even walk on subway tracks and climb bridges, than add a camera to the mix and obtain useable footage as well.
All in all I salute Mr. Wonder, for literally taking filmmaking to another level. I’ll just stick my documentaries on level ground for the time being…
